Craniosacral Therapy (CST) was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. The practitioner, using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams or about the weight of a nickel, releases restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
* Migraine Headaches, Chronic Neck and Back Pain
* Motor-Coordination Impairments
* Autism
* Orthopedic Problems
* Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
* Scoliosis
* Learning Disabilities
* Chronic Fatigue
* Emotional Difficulties
* Stress and Tension-Related Problems
* Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
* Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
* Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
* Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
* Post-Surgical Dysfunction
Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT) is an original hands-on method of lymphatic drainage developed by Bruno Chikly, MD, of France. Created out of his award-winning research on the lymphatic system, LDT takes traditional lymph drainage techniques and adds a level of precision consistent with recent scientific discoveries.
Using exacting anatomical science and distinctive manual processes, LDT enables practitioners to detect the specific rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. From there they can use their hands to perform Manual Lymphatic Mapping (MLM) of the vessels to assess overall circulation and determine the best alternate pathways for draining body-fluid stagnations.
Therapists work with flat hands, using all the fingers to simulate gentle, specific wave-like movements. These subtle manual maneuvers activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. It is shown that when these actions are accomplished, the results can be:
* Reduction in edemas (swelling) and lymphedemas of various origins
* Detoxification of the body
* Regeneration of tissue, including burns, wounds and wrinkles
* Anti-ageing effects
* Relief of numerous chronic and sub acute inflammations, including sinusitis, bronchitis and otitis
* Relief of chronic pain
* Reduction in the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia
* Anti-spastic actions to relieve conditions such as muscle hypertonus and some forms of constipation
* Deep relaxation to aid insomnia, stress, loss of vitality and loss of memory
* Alleviation of cellulite tissue
Hot Stone is a form of thermal hydrotherapy. Stones of all shapes and sizes and averaging 140 degrees, are placed or stroked on the body to elicit physical healing, mental relaxation, and a spiritual connection to earth energy.
Myofascial Release is a technique that uses gentle pressure into the fascial system in order to eliminate restrictions and facilitate the emergence of emotional patterns and belief systems that are no longer relevant or are impeding progress. Myofascial release is an effective therapeutic approach in the relief of cervical pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, and neurological dysfunction, restriction of motion, chronic pain, and headaches.
Neuromuscular Therapy is a deeper form of soft-tissue manipulation that balances the body’s central nervous system with the musculoskeletal system. It is used to locate and release spasms and hyper contraction in the tissue, eliminate trigger points that cause referred pain, rebuild the strength of injured tissues, assist venous and lymphatic flow, and restore postural alignment, proper biomechanics, and flexibility to the tissues.
Swedish is a gentle technique that uses a system of long strokes, kneading and friction on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints. The benefits may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.
Healing Touch, Usui Reiki and Wei Chi Tibetan Reiki™ are known as energy techniques and are very similar in that the practitioner accesses the human energy field with the hands either gently on or completely off the body with the intent to facilitate balance of the human energy field.
Healing Touch is a holistic energy therapy that emphasizes compassion, heart-centered care in which the Healing Touch provider and client are equal partners in facilitating health and healing. It uses gentle, non-invasive touch to influence the energy system, thus affecting physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and healing. The goal is to restore harmony and balance in the energy system to help the person to self-heal. Healing Touch complements conventional health care; in conjunction with other approaches to health and healing. Practitioners frequently use other energetic treatment modalities in addition. The relationship between the giver and receiver influence the quality and impact of healing.
Usui Reiki is the combining of universal energy with individual energy to open pathways of healing. The term Reiki is from two Japanese symbols: REI, meaning 'spirit, air, essence of creation.' and KI, meaning 'power, energy.' Thus, REI-KI put together and translated into English literally means "spirit energy" or "creation energy" in other words, the energy of the Universal Life Force. Traditional Reiki is what has been termed "relaxation" Reiki: a passive healing technique, wherein the client silently receives the energy from the practitioner, creating relaxation, stress reduction and the release of energies that are already in the process of being released. It is a technique of opening yourself up to channel the Universal Life Force energy in order to help facilitate healing for yourself and others.
Rediscovered by Japanese Buddhist and Christian scholar of theology Mikao Usui around 1921 this healing method involves placing the hands on or just above the body in order to align the chakras and bring healing energy to organs and glands, the practitioner, trained to access and serve as a channel for the light energy, uses a passive touch which some clients experience with a warmth and tingling. The hands remain in position for 3-5 minutes alternately covering 10-12 positions over the body. Treatments work by dissolving or eliminating toxic energy and substances from many levels of ones being, weather physical, emotional or mental. This works to strengthen the harmonic flow of energy with in the body. There are the three levels of training in the initiation process of becoming a Reiki Master called attunements. A Reiki Master is someone who can teach others and attune their students. Through this training, the practitioner reaches a level where they can access energy flow through the hands to heal themselves and others.
Wei Chi Tibetan Reiki ™ December 1995, a 5000 year old Tibetan monk named WEI CHI began to channel through to Dr. Kevin Ross Emery and Thomas Henesel He informed them that he and his brothers had created the original system, which was the basis of our modern practice of Reiki. In the 19th century when Reiki was rediscovered, only a small portion of the original was actually found. Much had been lost through the centuries. Although the effects can be profound, many people have deeper, more complex physical/emotional imbalances and require more than simply energy. It is termed “therapeutic” Reiki, in that the client and the practitioner dialogues before, during and after the treatment. The practitioner channels not only energy, but also information, which is designed to give the client concrete ideas and actions to promote their self-healing The Wei Chi Tibetan Reiki™ system involves the clients actively. This system takes the power of Reiki to transform and multiplies it many, many times. In a Wei Chi Tibetan Reiki™ session, you will receive much in the form of both energy and information, all designed to teach you how to learn to heal yourself! These sessions are most powerful when performed in a treatment series, although single treatments can be powerfully transformative.
WEI CHI defines Reiki as "the process of empowering one to heal themselves." What we call Reiki today was originally a longer, more interactive process. The client was always asked at least two questions:
1. Do you agree that you have created the imbalances that have manifested as physical problems?
2. Do you agree that you must actively participate in your own healing process?
If the answer to either question was "no," then the client was asked to leave the table. The process of Reiki was designed to allow the client time to understand, own, accept and release their own blocks. This system takes the power of Reiki to transform and multiplies it many, many times.
Crystal Healing Session uses crystal to facilitate the body's own healing ability. The stones are placed on and around the client and may be combined with other massage and energy techniques.
Absentee Session is any energy or crystal techinque preformed when the client is not physically in the room with the facilator.
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils, which are extracted from herbs, flowers, resin, woods and roots, in body and skin care treatments. Used as a healing technique for thousands of years by Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, essential oils aid in relaxation, improve circulation and help the healing of wounds. Aromatherapy diffusers are utilized to fill the massage room with the scent of the oils. Specific essential oils are blended by the aroma therapist and added to a carrier oils such as almond, olive and grape seed to be used in the massage. Every essential oil type has its own unique characteristic and benefit.
Flower Essences seek to correct emotional imbalances by working on the subtle body instead of the physical body. The pattern in the subtle energy fields of the living plant influences the subtle energy fields of the human being. In prescribing flower essences, the practitioner assesses the whole individual, focusing on the disposition or negative emotions of the person, such as fear, impatience or over concern. An essence or combination of essences is then chosen to facilitate change and administered orally.
Pets can benefit from many of the above mentioned techniques. Energy techniques ease pain from injury and surgery and can gently assist with end of life issues.
